The digital nomad craze is rapidly spreading across the globe. Probably a third (if not half) of countries are already luring smart, young, and well-paid foreigners. Indeed, no one has ever heard of programmers causing any problems. Except for the road of broken hearts they leave behind, of course. And obtaining a residence permit in Croatia is a relatively new and easy way to move to Europe.

However, most of these programs have serious drawbacks: some will force you to pay hefty taxes, others will impose excessively high requirements on applicants. In some places, these visas offer absolutely no prospects or opportunity to stay in the country. For example, Iceland, beloved by many for its cosmic landscapes and unusual nature, is precisely this. It issues short-term, non-extendable visas with strict requirements. But at least you're a "digital nomad."
Today we'll talk about Croatia, which recently launched its own program aimed at people with remote incomes. Initially, the program was, let's say, too restrictive and very unattractive. However, the Croatian government modified it, and now, in our opinion, it's the best visa for living by the sea and planning fantastic European trips.
Judge for yourself:
- 0% income tax as stipulated by law
- the possibility of family reunification
- Residence permit card for 1,5 years with the possibility of extension
- You can declare both income and savings
- fully remote digital feed
Croatia is a country located on the Adriatic Sea, with a mild climate, ancient buildings, a rich culture, and breathtaking landscapes. It's part of the Schengen Area, of course. Looking for azure shores? Croatia is the place to be.

The monthly income requirements are higher than in Italy or Spain, starting at approximately €3300 per month , but this residence permit is procedurally the most convenient. You'll need a passport, a certificate of good conduct, proof of financial solvency, insurance, and a place to stay (at least temporarily). I'm not sure you'll need fewer documents for a regular tourist visa.
It's also important to note that the residence permit requirements allow for the redistribution of income and personal savings to obtain the permit. In fact, you can apply for a Croatian residence permit even without meeting the program's requirements.
With the help of specialists, your personal involvement will be limited to simply arriving to receive your EU residence card. Professionals will handle everything else, including assistance in obtaining permission to stay in the country.
Do you want to do the paperwork yourself?
This is also an excellent choice: you can complete the residency application remotely and apply for a D-visa at the nearest Croatian consulate. Croatia's biggest advantage is approvals. They won't make you scramble to obtain a residence permit. You upload your documents, receive your visa, and arrive in the country. It's simple and hassle-free—as we've already seen for ourselves.
